Spiritual direction is one human soul in conversation with another human soul in order to notice the stirrings of God’s goodness, beauty and truth together.

Spiritual Direction is one human soul in conversation with another human soul in order to notice the stirrings of God’s goodness, beauty and truth together. It is a form of holy listening and attending to the Spirit of God in daily life. It is an intentional relationship where a trained listener companions with another along the spiritual journey. It is a unique relationship between Director, Directee, and the Holy Spirit. The focus is on one’s experience and relationship with God, others, self and the world. In direction you deepen in your ability to pay attention and respond to God and yourself. Deeper intimacy with God and discernment are common experiences in this work.

The content of spiritual direction stems from your own experience in prayer or daily life. A spiritual director listens to both you and the Holy Spirit offering reflective listening, questions and gentle noticing to help you discern where you may be invited into deeper knowing.

A session typically happens once a month, and is about one hour long.

Spiritual direction does not replace therapy or pastoral counseling. In spiritual direction the spiritual director do not diagnose/solve problems, prescribe a certain way of living, nor tell you what to do. A spiritual director will listen with you in a curious posture with an open and compassionate heart always bringing you back to your own experience of God.

As a certified spiritual director I am listening for the presence, movement, and invitation of the mystery we call God in the stories and experiences the directee brings for sharing. I see the Holy Spirit as the true director, and my role is to tune into both the directee and the Spirit and respond (with comments, observations, tentative perspectives/wonderings, and occasionally questions) in cooperation with the Spirit as I discern that. My only focus is to assist the directee in becoming more aware of God’s Presence, and responding ever more faithfully to God’s love and invitations. 

I received my training in spiritual direction from Richmont University. I also am committed to regularly meeting with a spiritual director and spiritual direction supervisor.
